South Korea Increases China Freshwater Fishes Import

Statistic from Ocean & Aquatic Ministry in South Korea shows one increment
of 37% in China live fishes importation to 25,900 tons during this
Jan.-Aug, when compared with that of the same period of the previous year.
Inter alia, freshwater fishes importation inclusive of sucking fish, carps,
loaches and catfishes has accounted for 15,800 tons, 61% of the total
figure. Mentionably, the importation increment of sucking fish has highly
been 40%, while that of carps and loaches respectively 11% and 16%.
All the freshwater fishes importation in this country have come from China
with one importation volume of around US$20 million, said this South Korean
Ministry. And in the freshwater fish consumption in this country, China
supplies of sucking fish, carps and loaches have made up 70%-80%.
It is the limitation on small pond pisciculture in South Korea that has
stimulated this importation from China, said the Ministry.
Besides, the medicinal applications of sucking fish and carps also have
promoted this importation.
